Small fuel efficient cars did it for the Japs
The Japanese car manufacturers saw their big opportunity in the American car market shortly after the gas crisis of 1973 that saw a steep rise in prices and meant that all of a sudden the huge gas-guzzling American cars were not so attractive any more. It was at that precise moment that the Japs came in with their fuel-efficient small cars
